Every scrap deal comes down to two things: the grade of your metal and its weight. Get the weight wrong and you lose money on every load. That is why, at our yard, we weigh every load on a verified weighbridge, in front of you, so the figure your payment is based on is one you can see and check for yourself.
Quick Facts & Key Takeaways
- We run a verified weighbridge at our yard at, and weigh every load on it.
- You watch your load cross the scale; the weight recorded is the weight we pay on.
- Weighing for trade is governed by the Legal Metrology Act, 2014, administered by the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS).
- Your payment is worked out from graded weight — the grade of the metal multiplied by the weighed mass at the current rate.
- Payment is by same-day EFT once your load is weighed and graded. We do not pay cash.
Weighing your scrap on a verified weighbridge
When you bring or send scrap to us — whether a single load or an ongoing industrial scrap contract — it does not get valued by guesswork. Your load goes across a verified weighbridge, the mass is recorded, and that reading is used to calculate what we pay you.
- We weigh in and, where relevant, weigh out so the net mass of your metal is clear.
- We grade the material — copper, brass, aluminium, stainless steel, lead, scrap steel and iron, and so on — because different grades earn very different rates.
- We apply the current rate for each grade against the weighed figure, and you can see how the total is built up.
You are welcome to watch the process. There is nothing hidden about the number your payment rests on.
Why weighing on a proper weighbridge matters
In, any weighing used to buy or sell goods is regulated. The Legal Metrology Act, 2014 (Act No. 9 of 2014), enforced by the NRCS, sets the framework for accurate, legal-for-trade weighing. Scales can drift over time through mechanical wear, temperature, and heavy use, and a weighbridge that reads even slightly out of tolerance costs the seller on every single load.
That is the whole reason we weigh on a verified weighbridge rather than estimating by eye or paying on a rough tally:
- An accurate weight means a fair result for both sides of the deal.
- You see the reading, so you can trust the payment reflects exactly what you delivered.
- Scrap is priced by graded weight, so the scale reading matters just as much as the grade.
What determines your payment
Three things set the number:
- Grade and cleanliness of the metal. Clean, sorted metal grades higher than dirty or mixed loads.
- Weighed mass on our weighbridge.
- The current rate for that grade. Rates move with the market, so we confirm them on the day. Indicative ranges include copper R105–R177/kg, brass R25–R75/kg, aluminium R5–R45/kg, stainless R5–R32/kg, and scrap steel R1.20–R4.00/kg. Final figures are confirmed by graded weight on our weighbridge.
Sorting your metal and stripping insulation or fittings before you sell it to us usually lifts both the grade and the rate you receive.
Selling to us: what you need
- A valid ID or passport and proof of address. These are required under the Second-Hand Goods Act, 2009, before we can buy from you.
- Payment is by same-day EFT after your load is weighed and graded.
